NEET (UG) 2024: A Grievance Unveils Deeper Systemic Issues

The National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (NEET UG) is a critical gateway for aspiring medical students in India. As we look ahead to NEET (UG) 2024, the recent experience of one applicant, Mahesh Pratap Singh alias Yogi M. P. Singh, casts a troubling shadow on the efficiency and accountability of the conducting body, the National Testing Agency (NTA).

The Starting Hurdle: A Dilapidated Website and Unreachable Support for NEET (UG) 2024

Mr. Singh’s ordeal began on March 6, 2024, when he attempted to register for NEET (UG) – 2024. Despite repeated attempts to get One Time Passwords (OTPs) for email verification at yogimpsingh@gmail.com and myogimpsingh@gmail.com, none arrived. He attributed this to a “dilapidated website” of NEET.

Adding to his frustration, the contact number provided on the website for assistance was perpetually engaged. This left him powerless to seek help. This highlights a severe lack of accessible support for applicants facing technical difficulties during a crucial registration period. This issue is particularly pressing for those engaged in the process of NEET (UG) 2024.

A Stark Contrast: Aadhaar OTPs Flow Smoothly

Interestingly, Mr. Singh’s grievance details include multiple successful OTP verification for his Aadhaar number (linked to mobile number 9336252631). These OTPs, sent by UIDAI, were received promptly, demonstrating that his communication channels were functional for other critical services. This stark contrast highlights the specific issues. The problem lies with the NEET website’s email delivery system related to the NEET (UG) 2024 process.

“Case Closed” – But When and With What Solution?

The grievance, registered as DHLTH/E/2024/0003688, was marked “Case closed” on October 17, 2024. The remarks provided by the NTA detail the NEET (UG) 2024 schedule. They explain the extension of registration dates from February 9-March 9 to March 16. Then, a re-opening occurs from April 9-10. The remarks also cover the various identification options for registration.

While the NTA’s response explains the timeline and options for NEET (UG) 2024 registration, it does not directly resolve Mr. Singh’s specific complaint about not receiving email OTPs or the difficulty in contacting support during the starting registration window. The response seems more like a general informational update than a resolution to a specific technical failure.

The Elephant in the Room: A Post-Exam “Resolution”

Perhaps the most astonishing aspect of this entire situation is the date of action: October 17, 2024. NEET (UG) 2024 was conducted on May 5, 2024, and results were declared much earlier. The NTA’s response, closing the case, comes seven months after the grievance was lodged and long after the examination itself.

Mr. Singh’s “Poor” rating and accompanying remarks perfectly encapsulate this frustration:

Think about the mismanagement in the working of the public authority conducting the exam of the NEET. This is quite obvious from the report submitted by the concerned staff. The report was submitted after 7 months when the examination of the NEET was over. More than 4 months have passed since the date the result was declared. Whether it is reflecting good governance as declared by Narendra damodardas Modi during the election campaign. Good governance must show in the government’s workings. If there is good governance, the public departments will respond properly. Transparency and accountability will be visible in the working of the public authority. This is one of the excellent characteristics. This is factual position that large scale riggings were found in processing the result and conducting the exam of the entrance test of the NEET but who will take care of it in this largest democracy where jungle raj is prevailed in the working of the public staff is visible to common man but not visible

His powerful statement questions the very essence of “good governance.” It challenges transparency and accountability, especially in light of alleged “large scale riggings.” There is also a visible “jungle raj” in public staff operations.

What This Means for Aspirants and Governance

This incident goes beyond a single applicant’s inconvenience. It raises serious questions about:

While the NTA did re-open the registration window, the delayed and somewhat generic response to Mr. Singh’s specific technical issues highlights a potential disconnect between policy announcements and on-the-ground operational efficiency.

The NEET exam is a high-stakes event for millions of students. Ensuring a smooth, transparent, and accountable process, from registration to results and especially during NEET (UG) 2024, is paramount. This grievance serves as a stark reminder. Promises of “good governance” must translate into tangible, prompt, and effective action for every citizen.

  1. Such reply from public authority is quite common in this largest democracy in the world.

It is quite obvious that the matter concerns the registration of candidate of neet was resolved after 7 months by the concerned recruiting agency which is a mockery of the provisions of law and reflects anarchy in the working of the government.

  3. Everyone knows that how much corruption was in the conducting the examination of the neet at the all India level. Mass irregularity was traced by the people of this country but it is most unfortunate in the name of action our public staff are only procrastinating.

  4. This is a mismanagement. But the working of national test agency was ful of corruption which was found later.
