Unpacking the Power Struggle: A Citizen’s Grievance Exposes Flaws in UP’s Electricity Supply

A grievance from a Mirzapur, Uttar Pradesh resident highlights significant issues that many in the community have been facing for quite some time.
This grievance unpacks the power struggle between the government’s promises and citizens’ lived experiences, illustrating a growing disconnect that raises serious concerns.
The issues involve the stark disparity between political promises of a 24-hour power supply and the actual services that residents receive on a daily basis. Reality sharply contrasts these claims, as frequent power outages have become a frustrating norm.
Repeated complaints stay unaddressed, leaving residents feeling ignored and unheard.
This situation reveals deep-rooted concerns about accountability and infrastructure in the state’s power distribution system, where inadequate maintenance and insufficient investment in essential resources exacerbate the ongoing challenges faced by the populace.
As citizens continue to grapple with these issues, the gap between expectation and reality widens, further undermining trust in governmental institutions.

The Grievance about Unpacking the Power Struggle: A Tale of Frequent Outages and Unanswered Calls

The complainant, Yogi M. P. Singh, reported a five-hour power breakdown. Singh expressed frustration over the lack of available staff responsible for addressing the issue. In dealing with this, we further unpack the power struggle between citizens and service providers.

Singh questioned the framework’s effectiveness. He claimed frequent disruptions make election promises just “election rhetoric.” This illustrates the complexities of unpacking the intricate power struggle citizens face daily.

“Our political masters make promises only during the election campaign. They never pay heed to keep their promises made with the people. Thus we see that electorates are only made stupid by the political masters.”Yogi M. P. Singh

The Department’s Response: Rosters, Faults, and a Focus on Theft

The replies from the Executive Engineer, Manish Kumar Srivastava, provided a typical departmental defense, often failing to tackle the core concerns of accountability and lengthy disruptions. Truly unpacking the power struggle requires a deep dive into these responses.

  • First Response: Stated that electricity is supplied “as per the roster.” Power cuts are necessary for a brief “shut-down to rectify local faults.” It then shifted the burden back to the complainant about electricity theft, a key accusation against the network’s flaws.
  • Final Closure/Action: The case was closed with a rating of 1 (Poor) from the complainant. The final ‘Remark’ stated the power cut was due to “reinforcement work on dilapidated poles and wires.”

A System Under Scrutiny: From Smart Meters to Connivance

The complainant’s subsequent, often scathing, replies in the grievance process pinpoint the systemic failures, which reveal more layers of the power struggle beyond simple technical faults.

1. The Accountability Gap

Singh repeatedly stressed the lack of accountability. He noted the quick, nearly similar reports generated by the Executive Engineer. Singh demanded a simple explanation for the outages. He highlighted the irony of the 24-hour power supply claim versus the reality of “electricity trips every 2 hours,” further illustrating how citizens are continually unpacking the power struggle.

2. The Failure to Communicate

A major point of contention was the lack of prior information about maintenance, which left many consumers feeling uninformed and frustrated.
The complainant argued that such necessary work must be carried out “according to the convenience of the consumers,” emphasizing that proper communication is crucial for consumers to plan their schedules effectively and avoid unnecessary disruptions.
This incident highlights another facet of the ongoing power struggle unpacked through these lapses, revealing deeper issues related to customer service responsiveness and the balance of power between service providers and their clients.
Such oversights can erode trust and satisfaction among consumers, leading to broader implications for the company’s reputation and long-term success.

3. The Elephant in the Room: Electricity Theft

Despite the installation of smart meters to curb losses, the department continues to cite load issues and power theft. Singh made a powerful accusation: “No one else steals. Without the connivance of the department, theft of electricity is not possible.” He stated that the power distribution office’s own “lacuna” is a root cause of the theft. Truly, unpacking the power struggle requires addressing these fundamental flaws.

Conclusion: Is this ‘Good Governance’?

The Mirzapur grievance highlights the disconnect between promises of seamless power and the reality of frequent outages. It also points out uncommunicated maintenance and unresponsive staff, all part of unpacking the larger power struggle.

The complainant’s final question sums up the public sentiment: “Is this what is called good governance? Where is the responsibility?”

The department’s classification of the case as a “suggestion category case” is insufficient. It overlooks critical issues like infrastructure decay and administrative laxity. Unpacking the power struggle reveals that these require transparency and accountability. Without addressing these, the low rating and public dissatisfaction will persist.

What do you think is the single biggest issue? Is it lack of accountability, poor infrastructure, or unaddressed power theft? These questions are crucial for unpacking the ongoing power struggle.

Whether our leaders including P.M. and C.M. are liars about 24 hours supply of electricity

Our prime minister and chief minister have not provided 24 hours power supply, which has led to significant challenges for both businesses and households across the nation.
The consistent lack of reliable electricity not only affects daily life but also hampers economic growth, making it difficult for industries to operate efficiently.
Many citizens are left in the dark, grappling with the consequences of power cuts, affecting their productivity and overall quality of life.
This situation calls for urgent attention and effective solutions from the leadership to ensure uninterrupted power supply and restore public confidence.

  1. The frequent breakdown in the supply of electricity is showing the factual position of the claim of our political masters who claimed 24 hours supply of electricity during the election campaign of parliamentary election as well as elections held for state legislature.

Breakdown in the supply of electricity must be controlled instead of submitting concocted story in the name of a report on the jansunwai portal of the Government of Uttar Pradesh.

  3. The executive engineer has prepared a report and will submit the same report again and again. Only the date needs to be changed. Whether the such things are not lowering the dignity of the public authority
