🚨 ACTION ALERT: Are Mirzapur Officials Ignoring the ‘Swachh Bharat Abhiyan’? One Citizen’s Fight for a Clean Lane in Surekapuram
The Dirty Reality of Negligence showing truth of Swachh Bharat Abhiyan
Mohalla Surekapuram is a colony on Jabalpur Road in Mirzapur City that has faced a troubling failure in basic civic duty for more than a month, despite the well-intentioned goals of the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan aimed at ensuring cleanliness across the nation. This deteriorating situation is simply unacceptable and reflects poorly on the local administrative efforts.
The lane in front of my residence has not been swept regularly, allowing dirt and debris to build up significantly. As a direct consequence, it is now covered in accumulated cow dung and other foul waste that emits a disagreeable odor, creating an unsightly and unwelcoming environment for residents and visitors alike.
This isn’t just an inconvenience—it’s a serious public health hazard, posing risks of disease and infestation and standing as a stark betrayal of the cleanliness we expect, which is the very essence of the Swachh Bharat mission.
The community’s trust in the government’s commitment to sanitation is waning, and urgent action is necessary to restore the standards of hygiene that every citizen deserves.
Where is the Accountability?
We live in the age of ‘Swachh Bharat Abhiyan’ and significant development funds, which have been allocated to promote cleanliness and better sanitation across the country. So why is a simple task like sweeping a road so impossible for the local municipality, especially when Swachh Bharat initiatives aim for cleaner cities?
This puzzling issue raises important questions about the effectiveness of program implementation and the allocation of resources. Despite the clear goals outlined in these initiatives, the lack of consistent action at the grassroots level demonstrates a disconnect between policy and reality.
The local authorities, well-funded and equipped, should prioritize such basic yet vital tasks to ensure that public spaces remain clean and inviting for all residents. The community deserves to benefit from the substantial investments made in these cleanliness campaigns, allowing us to take pride in our surroundings.
On September 30, 2025, I filed an official complaint (Reg. No.: GOVUP/E/2025/0114687) detailing the deplorable conditions and demanding immediate action from the Mirzapur Municipality under the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan scheme.
The situation is grave. The grievance was escalated to the Chief Minister’s Secretariat and is ‘Under Process’ by a Joint Secretary (Shri Arvind Mohan). The Executive Officer of Mirzapur Municipality has shown ZERO concrete response for nearly a month.
This isn’t just inefficiency. It’s a direct challenge to the vision of a clean Uttar Pradesh. It also reflects a worrying disregard for top-level government intervention meant to support the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan.
The Grievance Status Speaks Volumes
My starting plea was unsuccessful in moving the local body, so I submitted an Urgent Follow-Up Grievance (Reg. No.: GOVUP/E/2025/0123620) today, October 27, 2025.
This new filing demands a thorough review of the issues previously outlined and seeks to address the ongoing concerns that have yet to be resolved. It highlights the urgent need for immediate action and emphasizes the impact that the lack of response has had on the community.
Furthermore, this grievance reiterates the importance of timely communication and effective measures to ensure that similar situations do not arise in the future, as well as requesting a formal acknowledgment of receipt to keep the process transparent and accountable.
- Immediate and Daily Cleaning of Surekapuram Colony.
- Accountability from the Executive Officer for the month-long delay.
- A Clear Plan detailing the assigned sweeper and cleaning schedule, aligning with Swachh Bharat Abhiyan goals.
The question remains: Will the Mirzapur Municipality finally act? Or will it continue to treat citizen health and safety as a low priority?
🙏 Call to Action: Your Voice Matters!
This fight for a clean lane is not just mine—it belongs to every resident who deserves a hygienic neighbourhood free from litter and pollution.
We can’t allow basic civic services to collapse due to local negligence, as this not only affects our immediate surroundings but also contradicts the Swachh Bharat mission that aims to promote cleanliness and sanitation across the nation.
The collective responsibility we share is vital in maintaining the aesthetic and health of our environment, ensuring that future generations inherit a community that values cleanliness and public health.
Therefore, it is imperative that we unite our voices and actions to demand better waste management, enhance public awareness, and foster a culture of accountability among our local authorities.

Let’s show the Mirzapur Municipality and the Executive Officer something important.
The citizens of Surekapuram, along with individuals from the entire city, strongly demand accountability and prompt action as promised by the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan.
This initiative was established to foster a cleaner and healthier India, and it is essential that our local leaders adhere to these commitments.
We urge the authorities to not only recognize the voices of the community but to take meaningful steps towards improving our infrastructure, ensuring proper waste management, and creating awareness among citizens about hygiene practices.
The time for change is now, and together we can build a city that reflects the values of cleanliness, responsibility, and progress.
We deserve a clean city. Let’s make sure our officials deliver it.
