Introduction: SBI Ignored Government Order

Discover the shocking consequences after SBI ignored a crucial government order, which led to a frozen account and significant financial losses for countless customers. This oversight not only caused immense distress but also highlighted the urgent need for better regulatory compliance in the banking sector to protect public interests.

Key Takeaways

  • SBI ignored a crucial government order, resulting in a frozen account and significant financial losses for customers.
  • An identity theft led to the blocking of a savings account by SBI, causing extreme distress.
  • Despite receiving an official release order, SBI failed to unfreeze the account due to administrative errors.
  • The lack of accountability at SBI created a situation where no one took responsibility for the delay in releasing the funds.
  • To combat this, using the RTI Act can help customers gather information and seek redressal when banks like SBI ignore governmental directives.

Fighting the System: How SBI Ignored a Government Order and Held My Money Hostage

Imagine logging into your banking app on a normal day. Suddenly, you discover that your life savings are completely frozen because SBI Ignored a Government Order. Naturally, you have not committed any crime. Furthermore, you do not owe over a crore in taxes. Yet, an unfathomable debit freeze of Rs. 1,16,28,163 has brought your financial life to a sudden halt.

Ultimately, this is the exact nightmare I am facing with the State Bank of India. In fact, my story shows what happens when someone steals your identity. Because SBI ignored a government order, the resolution was blocked by bank negligence and delay. Consequently, here is how a massive institution failed to follow a direct order, and here is how I am fighting back.

The Genesis of the Issue: GST Fraud and How SBI Ignored Directives

To begin with, the ordeal began when scammers misused my Permanent Account Number (PAN). Specifically, they fraudulently registered a business called “Veer Enterprises” under the Goods and Services Tax (GST) network in Tamil Nadu. Consequently, the Assistant Commissioner (ST) of the Kundrathur Assessment Circle issued a demand notice for fake tax arrears of over Rs. 1.16 Crore.

In order to recover this false debt, the Tamil Nadu Commercial Taxes Department sent a Form GST DRC-13 order to my bank branch, SBI Mirzapur City. As a result, my savings account (No. 34645721675) was instantly blocked.

Therefore, I immediately took legal action. First, I filed an FIR (No. 0291 of 2023) at the Kotwali Katra Police Station in Mirzapur to prove my identity was stolen. After a long effort, the tax authority accepted the fraud. Thus, on October 17, 2026, they issued an official “BANK ATTACHMENT RELEASE” order. Ultimately, this document withdrew the tax demand and told the bank to unfreeze my account.

The Bank’s Administrative Error: How SBI Ignored Official Communications

At first, with the official government clearance in hand, I assumed the crisis was over. However, written emails later showed how SBI ignored a clear government order due to severe mistakes.

Specifically, on Saturday, October 17, at 13:42, I received an email from Binod Prasad, Chief Manager (CCGRO). He wrote:

“Your SB account is marked hold by Rs. 1,16,28,163.00 from Centralised Cyber Cell Patna… The hold… will be removed by them on receipt of NOC/letter regarding removal of hold from account from the concern LEA.”

In reality, this statement was a huge clerical error. For instance, he claimed the hold came from Patna. However, their own file attachments clearly showed the hold came from the Tamil Nadu Commercial Taxes Department.

Thereafter, just two hours later, at 15:27, I replied to the Chief Manager and the Mirzapur Branch Manager, and I also copied the SBI Chairman. Meanwhile, I attached the official release order from Tamil Nadu, which stated:

“After reviewing the official Police FIR and investigating the identity theft concerning my PAN… the Tamil Nadu Commercial Taxes Department has officially withdrawn the GST DRC-13 notice and ordered the release of the bank attachment.”

Even though they received the exact document they asked for, they did not act. Consequently, SBI Ignored a Government Order, and my valid release paper was set aside while bank officers chased wrong information in Patna.

Passing the Buck: What Happens When SBI Disregards Official Orders

When your money is frozen, you naturally expect your local branch to help. However, the Branch Manager claimed he had no role in the matter. Instead, he passed the authority to the Regional Business Office (RBO) and internal IT departments.

As a result, this created an endless loop where no one helped. For example, the branch pointed to the RBO, and the RBO pointed to the Surveillance Department. Meanwhile, customer service sent automated email replies. Furthermore, they ignored my 15:27 email with the attached clearance paper and told me to contact a Nodal Officer in Lucknow instead. In short, no one was willing to review the file and unfreeze my funds.

Fighting Back: The Power of the RTI Act When SBI Ignored Directives

When bank channels fail because SBI Ignored a Government Order, you must use legal tools. Therefore, on October 22, 2026, I filed a Right to Information (RTI) application (Registration No. SBIPA/R/E/26/00960) with the Central Public Information Officer (CPIO) at SBI Patna Circle.

I did not just ask them to unfreeze the account. In addition, I demanded full details to show their internal delays. Specifically, my RTI requested:

  • Daily Progress Reports: To see exactly whose desk the Tamil Nadu release order has been sitting on since I emailed it on October 17.
  • Officer Accountability: The names of the officials in the Centralised Cyber Cell who failed to act on the clearance.
  • Internal File Notings: The internal emails and remarks discussing the delay.
  • Standard Operating Procedures (SOP): The mandatory turnaround time for processing legal release orders.

Hence, by forcing them to put their internal records on file, I am building a clear case for compensation.

Next Steps: Escaping the Loop After SBI Ignored a Government Order

Above all, a bank must honor an official legal release order. Indeed, refusing to do so is a severe service failure. Since polite emails and official orders failed, my next step is filing a complaint with the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) Banking Ombudsman.

If you face a similar banking problem, do not rely only on standard customer service. Instead, save every email thread, collect your official legal clearances, and use the RTI Act to request records. Finally, be ready to take the matter to higher regulatory authorities. Your money belongs to you, and no system should hold it back through delay and poor service.

Does SBI Have Liability to Its Customers?

Without a doubt, yes, they do. Indeed, State Bank of India must stay accountable to its account holders. Specifically, they operate under rules set by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) and must follow consumer protection laws.

When a bank fails to act on a valid legal order and keeps your account frozen, they violate several key standards:

1. Deficiency of Service: Why SBI Ignored Official Instructions

First and foremost, banks provide a service to customers. Thus, when managers shift blame, customer care sends automated replies, and departments ignore legal instructions, it forms a clear Deficiency of Service. Because SBI Ignored a Government Order, you consequently have the right to seek compensation for distress and financial trouble through Consumer Courts.

2. Violation of the RBI Charter of Customer Rights When SBI Ignored Orders

The RBI defines clear rights for account holders, including:

  • Right to Fair Treatment: Customers should not face loss or trouble because of bank errors, such as mixing up Patna and Tamil Nadu.
  • Right to Grievance Redressal: Banks must resolve complaints within fixed timelines. Closing a ticket with a generic message while keeping the account frozen violates this right.

In addition, this system offers a direct way to hold banks accountable. For instance, the Ombudsman can act on issues such as:

  • Delay or failure in providing banking facilities (including unfreezing an account when a valid NOC is presented).
  • Failure to adhere to the fair practices code.
  • Compensation: The Ombudsman has the authority to direct the bank to pay compensation up to Rs. 20 Lakhs for the actual loss suffered, and up to Rs. 1 Lakh specifically for the loss of the complainant’s time, expenses incurred, and mental anguish.

The Bottom Line: Ultimately, internal department delays do not clear a bank of liability. To the account holder, the bank is one single organization. Therefore, if they keep your funds locked after receiving legal clearance, they are responsible for the resulting harm.
