900 LED street lights were purchased in Jaunpur Nagar Palika in December 2021. The LED lights were supplied by a firm named Maa Ganga & Sons. These lights were to be installed in various wards by the municipality. Meanwhile, people alleged that the municipality has embezzled millions of rupees by purchasing street lights at a price higher than the market rate. The 900 LED street lights purchased were of the 60 watts. The price of one light including GST was shown by the firm as Rs 6,250.
The District Magistrate constituted a three-member committee in this matter. SDM Sadar Himanshu Nagpal, Chief Treasurer Sunil Kumar and Executive Engineer Electricity were included in the team, constituted to investigate the financial irregularities. The investigation revealed that the price of 900 lights including GST has been shown as Rs 56,24,999 in the tender. The company which owned the street lights could not be verified on checking online, due to which questions started being raised on the reliability of the lights.
Public information officer/PIO in the office of district magistrate Jaunpur must provide the following information point wise to the information seeker as follows.
1- PIO must provide the enquiry report based on the findings of the three members team set up by district to magistrate Jaunpur for the enquiry of the scandal that took place in the municipality.
2- PIO must provide the copy of the letter of nomination of the team members by the district magistrate Jaunpur.
3- PIO must provide the name and designation of the officers who processed the enquiry report and granted their approvals.
4- PIO must provide the terms and conditions of the contract made between the municipality Jaunpur and the company selected for supply of the 900 LED street lights.
5- PIO must provide the name and posting details of the executive officer of the municipality Jaunpur who granted the tender in favour of the company supplying the 900 LED street lights to the municipality Jaunpur.
The public information officer must provide the five points information to the information seeker within the stipulated 30 days as prescribed under subsection 1 of section 7 of The Right to information act 2005.
