Grievance Description
The matter concerns the arbitrariness in the verification and enrolment of new voters and those still not enrolled in the electoral roll in the district of Mirzapur. Undoubtedly the process initiated by the election commission of the province of Uttar Pradesh in view of Local body elections has been biased because of a lack of transparency and accountability in the strategy of the government. My Aadhar card is attached to this grievance and concerned staff may be directed to enrol my name and family members in the electoral roll so that we may not be deprived to exercise our franchise. a
For a healthy democracy, there must be transparency and accountability in the function of public staff who are engaged in the electoral process. Here public staff are always loyal to local political bosses to garner undue favour from them like plum postings and others.
General instructions in respect of Form 6, 6A, 7, 8, 8A for the guidance of Registration Authorities. Special Drive to enrol left-out electors giving focus on first-time electorates (Young Indian Citizens in the age group of 18-21 years)-regarding. Link to PDF E-Rolls. Link of claims & objections. Training Material- Special Summary Revision 2015.
A few days ago, a government staff member belonging to the district administration of Mirzapur came to my dwelling place and made an inquiry regarding the name in the electoral roll when I told my family members are not enrolled in the electoral roll of the election commission of India. Then he made an inquiry regarding neighbours and overlooked my request to enrol the family members eligible to exercise their franchise. The circular issued by the state election commission dated 18 October 2022 through Manoj Kumar, state election commissioner is the first and second page of the attached PDF document.
Today again he met with me on the street and was performing the allotted job of verifying the electoral roll. He assured me to take the Aadhar cards that are eligible for the enrolment but this time also he did not keep his promise. How the tyranny of such erring public staff may be tolerated by innocent and gullible people.
Think about the gravity of the situation for a graduate constituency. I have been enrolled and family members are also enrolled but in the local body election, we are not eligible to cast our votes for appropriate candidates because of mismanagement in the working of the local administration.
